The Celiac test was designed to be an extensive evaluation for the presence of Celiac Disease.
Celiac Disease, also called: Celiac sprue, Gluten-sensitive enteropathy, Nontropical sprue is a condition where when you eat foods with gluten, your immune system responds by damaging the small intestine. Gluten is a protein in wheat, rye and barley. It is found mainly in foods but may also be in other products like medicines, vitamins and even the glue on stamps and envelopes.
Tests for Celiac Disease can be divided into 2 different types of antibodies: those which are anti-gluten, and those that anti-self. The anti-gluten antibodies are the anti-gliadin IgG and IgA. Ig stands for “immunoglobulin” or “antibody”.
The anti-self antibodies tested in this methodology is anti-tissue transglutaminase IgA. The tissue transglutaminase IgA antibody is often abbreviated as “tTG”. Each antibody test varies widely in its sensitivity and specificity for predicting whether the disease is present in any individual.
The kit includes all collection materials and the means to ship the specimen to the lab free of charge. Results are provided within 10-14 days from the time the test was received at the lab. This is a simple finger-prick blood spot test.
THIS TEST DOES NOT CONSTITUTE medical advice, a diagnosis or exclusion of disease, yet serves as a screening. If your results are positive consult your doctor immediately, and if the test is negative and you have symptoms associated with eating gluten/gliadin grains, discontinue their consumption and see your personal health care provider.
The blood test services are for informational purposes only. It is not the intention of Vitamin Research Products or the ordering physician to provide specific medical advice, but rather to provide users with information to better understand their health. Specific medical advice including diagnosis and treatment will not be provided. Always seek the advice of your personal trained health professional for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
