July 2003 - Is Conventional Medicine Evidence-Based? Introduction
By Rob Watson
When are supplements not really supplements? When the medical and drug industries are trying to cover up a serious health scandal. Last year some 20 million American
women learned that conventional hormone replacement therapy (HRT), using synthetic hormones to relieve symptoms of menopause, actually increased their risk of developing breast cancer, heart diseases, blood clots and strokes. Now a new study further reveals that conventional HRT therapy also increases a woman’s risk of developing Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
As this latest news trickled onto mainstream www.outlets, an interesting bit of sleight of hand
transpired. The headlines from the Associated Press declared, “Supplements Now Linked to Dementia.” Twisting the truth further, the AP article stated that the new research was “…yet another startling study that turns upside down what doctors have long believed about supplements.”
The main problem with this and other reports is that the only “supplements” mentioned in the article were supplemental synthetic estrogens and progestins—drugs that require a medical prescription. Vitamin Research News has been warning women about the side effects of these drugs for years. Additionally,
VRP continues to recommend that women discontinue conventional HRT and consider natural HRT instead, using natural forms of progesterone (and estrogen) that present few—if any—of the side effects
of synthetic hormones. Sadly, when the www.were finally forced to address the dangers of conventional HRT, these problematic drugs were somehow re-labeled as “supplements.”
I must give credit to Dr. John Lee who, during a recent visit, stressed we must now focus on Natural HRT vs Conventional HRT. “The data is strong, Natural HRT is the way to go. We must get the word out.”
Dr. Lee has specifically approached VRP to help him get the word out, so please stay tuned for more on this important topic, coming next month.
For more information on Natural HRT, search VRP’s library for Hormone Replacement Therapy and/or read Dr. Lee’s new book, What your doctor may not tell you about Breast Cancer, available from VRP.
