Gallbladder Support

This product is intended to promote healthy bile production, secretion and flow to support proper elimination and enhance gall bladder health. This product should be part of any detoxification program because once the liver has detoxified endogenous or exogenous chemicals, they are delivered to the gallbladder to be eliminated with the bile into the feces. Compromised bile synthesis or secretion results in the impairment of: detoxification of chemicals, elimination of hormones and cholesterol, emulsification of dietary fats, release of pancreatic fluid with enzymes, alkalization of the small intestine, and health of the lower GI tract.*

Key nutritional ingredients for healthy gallbladder function:

Organic Dandelion Root: has physiological impacts on both the liver and gallbladder. It promotes the production of bile by the liver and its delivery to the gallbladder while also stimulating normal gallbladder contraction for the release of stored bile.*

Organic Whole Beet concentrate: contain high amounts of betaine and fiber. Betaine is trimethylglycine which also supplies dimethylglycine, both of which are used as methyl donors in detoxification and immune pathways. The nutrients in beet are also lipotropic agents supporting the production of bile.*

Taurine: is a lipotropic amino acid that conjugates to bile acids increasing their “detergent-like” properties. It increases the activity of cholesterol-7-hydroxylase which converts cholesterol to bile acids thus stimulating bile production.*

Phosphatidylcholine (PC): has multiple functions as a natural phospholipid (lecithin) in cell membranes and one of the most important lipotropic ingredients for liver and gallbladder health. PC supports healthy hepato-biliary lipid metabolism and cholesterol levels (promoting gall bladder health). It supports cognitive function by providing choline for acetylcholine production. It improves cell membrane health and facilitates removal of cellular waste, while enhancing cell-to-cell communication. Choline is also a methyl donor for normal liver detoxification.*

Vitamin C: The enzyme cholesterol-7-hydroxylase (see above under taurine) for converting cholesterol to bile acids is vitamin C dependent. Adequate vitamin C intake supports normal  bile acid production. Vitamin C is necessary to protect against cellular changes and altered enzyme activity which can result when toxins are released.*

Milk Thistle (Silymarin): increases the solubility of bile, and therefore is ideal for individuals requiring gall bladder support. Milk thistle reduces biliary cholesterol concentrations and bile saturation indices, is a potent antioxidant for supporting phase I detoxification, and prevents the depletion of hepatic glutathione which is important for phase II detoxification. It has inflammation-balancing properties and helps maintain normal production of prostaglandins. One of its most interesting effects on the liver is the ability to stimulate protein synthesis resulting in the increased production of new liver cells to replace the old ones. In general it protects the liver from damaging chemicals and everyday toxins. [An in-vitro study found that milk thistle, as an effective antioxidant, protected against LDL cholesterol oxidation by up to 86%.]*

Pancrelipase: is one of the main pancreatic enzymes for fat digestion, hydrolyzing neutral fat into fatty acids and monoglycerides for absorption in the gut. It supports bile production and secretion.*

Inositol: another lipotropic agent in the conversion of cholesterol to bile acids.*
