DL-Phenylalanine (DLPA) is a mixture of the naturally occurring amino acid L-Phenylalanine and its isomer D-Phenylalanine. In addition to supporting the production of the excitory neurotransmitters epinephrine and norepinephrine, DLPA has been used as a mood elevator and for appetite suppression. DLPA also helps relieve discomfort by prolonging the activity of enkephalins, the body’s own pain-blocking neuropeptides. DLPA has been used successfully for the management of chronic pain and may be effective in a number of endorphin deficiency states such as depression and arthritis.
