Dear Doctor Q & A

PABA and Gray Hair

Question:

Dear Dr. Dean, On page 68 of the Vitamin Research Products Catalog there's an inset article titled "The Anti-Gray Hair Vitamin." It states that people were taking 6-24 grams of PABA per day to darken gray hair. Does that mean 6,000 to 24,000 mg of PABA per day? What would you recommend taking per day to see if there would be any effect on darkening gray hair? Thanks for your response. Mr. C.

Answer:

Dear Mr. C., Yes, that is the dose that it means. Usually, the dose is limited because high-dose PABA causes diarrhea. Just take it to "bowel tolerance." Ward Dean, M.D.
