Supplements Based on Test Results

Dear Dr. Meletis, I recently had a blood and urine analysis with 12-hour fasting. I had approximately 24 oz. of water prior to the test, which showed the following levels: Blood creatinine at .90, Cholesterol at 216, HDL 95, LDL 107, Triglycerides 66. The urine test showed Specific Gravity at NP which meant diluted urine with urine creatinine levels at 14.1, Protein/Creatinine Ratio of .14. What supplement would you recommend to adjust these levels? Ms. G.

Dear Ms. G., We cannot specifically prescribe for you, since we do not know your health history. With the few numbers that you have shared, the numbers look good all in all. Your HDL being so high makes up a large portion of your total of 216 cholesterol. Common supplements for healthy aging include a good multivitamin, such as Extend Core or Extend Plus, a good green drink such as Primary Greens, Vitamin D3 and a good antioxidant such as Extension Antioxidant or similar. As you are aware, the key to good health is prevention and being proactive. Monitoring your liver as well as hormone levels such as Cortisol, Estrogen, Progesterone and DHEA through a Salivary Hormone Test may be considerations as well. Also getting a baseline vitamin D level would be prudent (a 25-OH-vitamin D test). Working with your personal health care provider is essential. The information shared here is educational and is not intended as either diagnosis or treatment. Sincerely, Chris D. Meletis, ND
