Lowering Fibrinogen Levels

Dear Dr. Dean,I am facing impending lumbar surgery for spinal stenosis. My doctor ordered several blood tests, including one for fibrinogen. My score came back at 360. He felt this score was too elevated and wants the score to be below 300 for my surgery. He told me to hold off on the surgery at this point.Do you also feel that a score of 360 is too high for surgery? If so, why? Also, you often mention that one should treat elevated fibrinogen levels with Turmeric Extract. What would be a safe and therapeutic dose of Turmeric to lower my fibrinogen score to optimal levels?Because of my symptoms, I cannot postpone the surgery too much longer. What would be a good plan to gradually build up to therapeutic levels of Turmeric without causing side effects? Thank you. - Mr. S.

Dear Mr. S.,I’m surprised that your physician had the foresight to even measure fibrinogen levels. As you know from reading my articles, fibrinogen is a more significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease and thromboses (blood clots) than elevated cholesterol. Two to three grams per day of Turmeric Extract is a safe and effective dose to bring your fibrinogen levels down to healthier levels. You may also benefit from Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory effects. Don’t worry about gradually building up your dosage of Turmeric. It is extremely safe.Ward Dean, M.D.
