Dear Dr. Meletis, I am HIV positive with Hepatitis C and now have liver cancer. I have high ammonia blood levels and my doctor has put me on rifaximin, which I am having problems with. I’m considering taking Ornithine or branch chain amino acids. Could you recommend any other avenues that I could research to take care of this little problem that I’m having. I am presently taking HepatoGen™, Methylselenocysteine, EpiCor®, NAC, Fucoidan, Liquid Superfruit Antioxidant, Oregano Oil, neem, Choline, CeaseFire®, Advanced Inflammation Control, MSM, and Garlic. Sincerely, Mr. H.
Dear Mr. H., Your supplement routine looks very comprehensive. Increasing glutathione levels is important. Glutathione Plus would be a strong consideration. I am not sure if you have a local health care provider that you can discuss the possibility as appropriate for your case to provide you with IV vitamin C, IV lipoic acid and IV glutathione. These are just ideas and not a treatment recommendation. Increasing EpiCor to at least 2 per day is always a consideration for significant health goals. Increasing Silymarin (milk thistle) 70-80 percent standardized to 400 mg, 3 times per day is definitely something to discuss with your local provider as well. You may also want to see what your Vitamin D 25-OH levels are; they are likely in the 15-30 levels. Normal range is 20-100; most of my patients seek levels in the 55 -75 range. Once again not specific recommendations for you, rather seeking your physician’s guidance is critical, and I would consider having these levels measured immediately. The information provided is educational and not intended as either diagnosis or treatment. Only ones personal health care provider can monitor, evaluate and make health recommendations. I wish you the very best as you seek to enhance your wellness. Sincerely, Chris D. Meletis, ND
