Dear Dr. Dean:My mother-in-law had brain tumor surgery two years ago and now has severe short term memory loss and we think the beginning of Altzheimers disease. Can the Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Huperzine capsules be opened/stirred into juice or milk as she has a hard time swallowing tablets/capsules? Also my wife has Frozen Shoulder-what do you recommend for this?GB

Dear Mr. B. You can open a huperzine capsule into a beverage but I doubt if youll get her to try to drink it more than once. I dont think VRP sells anything that tastes more vile than huperzine. I think youll have much better luck with ALC. It is a little sour and would go well in almost any citrus juice. Also you might try Vinpocetine and Idebenone as well which have little if any taste. Also Melatonin at bedtime may help. Melatonin has little if any taste. By improving the quality of her sleep at night it may improve her mental outlook and cognitive function during the day. With regard to the frozen shoulder: Its very important that she get it moving. I suggest applying topical NutriJoint Cream which contains MSM—the active ingredient in DMSO. Also she can take Unizyme Turmeric Extract or Boswellia—all anti-inflammatory substances. Two exercises are helpful and mandatory. One is to extend the shoulder as far as she can with the arm straightened and hand against the wall. Use the fingers to walk the hand up the wall extending her should as far as she can limited by pain. She should do this several times daily. Another exercise is to bend over at the waist extend the arm to the floor holding a light weight and move the hand in progressively larger circles. Hope these suggestions help Ward Dean M.D.
