GH releasers and teenagers

Dear Dr. Dean,

I am a long time customer of VRP’s (15 years plus). Curious as to why there is a warning on Pro-Formance™ for use by teens and not on Amino Edge? What are dangers specifically for teens taking amino acids? I have also now seen amino formulas for teens to increase height/growth. Any merit to this application? Sincerely

Mr. B.

Dear Mr. B.,

The warning on Pro-Formance is part of the contract VRP had to sign in order to carry Durk and Sandy’s products. Remember their book, which was replete with (what I believe were unnecessary) warnings and cautions?I don’t believe there are any dangers in teens taking amino acids. In fact, with the diets of most teenagers today (including my two boys, 17 and 18), I’m glad whenever they get interested in supplements. My two guys finally discovered Creatine and Amino Edge, which I encourage them to take. I haven’t seen any studies regarding the use of these products to stimulate growth in teenagers-but I have spoken with a number of people who attributed a growth-stimulating effect in their children to high-dose amino acids. In addition to GH releasers, it is important for teenagers to get adequate sleep. That’s when they do most of their growing, and that’s also when they release the most growth hormone. Consequently, I recommend taking these products at night, about an hour or so before bedtime (on an empty stomach, of course).
