EpiCor® and Allergies

Dear Dr. Meletis,

I have a son who will be 6 in October. He has some seasonal allergies, and I am wondering if the EpiCor® Jr. product is a dosage amount that would be safe for him to take. I have a co-worker who is using the 500 mg capsule and claims it has worked very well for his allergies.

Dear Mr. C.,

EpiCor Jr. is designed for children in the 5 to 6 or older age category. In my clinical practice, I find it is well tolerated and works well for allergy support even in 4 year olds and younger. It ultimately depends on what his personal physician and you as a parent feel comfortable with in terms of supporting his immune system. In addition, you may choose to read about QuerCelain® as well. Yet, if he can’t yet swallow pills, this product would not necessarily be a good choice due to taste and that it contains a plant enzyme that could irritate a sensitive throat.
