Dear Dr. Dean,I am currently taking HepatoGen™, B1, C & NAC and Silymarin (milk thistle). I was diagnosed with slightly elevated liver enzymes. I have a history of alcohol use. I have stopped drinking and would like to know what else I can do or take to lower my liver enzymes and what I should take on a continuing basis. Thank you very much.Mr. M.
Dear Mr. M.,I suggest that you continue the HepatoGen, but add N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), Phosphatidylcholine, and Betaine (several grams per day) or SAMe.I’d discontinue the B1, C & NAC and Silymarin as you’re getting enough Silymarin in the HepatoGen and you probably need more NAC than what’s in the B1, C and NAC.You might also add Benfotiamine, a special form of B1, especially with your history of alcohol consumption that is well known for lowering thiamin.Glutathione Plus also can be added to your regimen, which would complement the glutathione production from NAC.Ward Dean, MD
