Dear Dr. Dean I am interested in learning more about Chelation therapy. I have a 3 year old who I have done a hair analysis on and the results show high aluminum(about normal range) and low mercury. He has a speech delay and has been in speech therapy since before he was 2 years old. I will say we have seen big improvements over the course of the year but he is still not speaking at the normal 3 year age level. Do you think this could be because of the aluminum and do you recommend Oral ChelatoRx on someone this young? Also if you do recommend some kind of oral chelator can you recommend which one the dosage and what I should expect on the oral chelator i.e. diarrhea vomiting etc. Dr. Dean any imformation you can give me to help my child is greatly apprieciated. As his mother it very difficult to see him get upset when he is not understood. He knows in his head what he wants to say but its like its not making the connection to his mouth. Thank you for your help. MQ

Dear Mrs. Q Normal aluminum levels are zero. Nevertheless I dont know that this in itself would cause the speech delay. Your sons speech delay may just be a normal development pattern for him. We are all different. Since he has shown significant improvement in the past year I think I would do no more than watchful waiting. Nevertheless two-four Oral ChelatoRx capsules per day would probably not hurt and should cause no adverse effects. I would discuss this with his pediatrician however. Ward Dean M.D.
