Dear Dr. Meletis, I’ve been diagnosed with Bulbar Palsy and a form of ALS, (Lou Gehrig’s disease). It’s affecting my speech pattern right now, and I get twitches in my face, not every day, but of course this is a neuron disease. I’m taking lots of antioxidants, fiber, and juicing almost every day. I’m also developing ulcers on the inside of my cheek. I was hoping you could give me some feedback. Mr. L.
Dear Mr. L., The first thing I would consider doing is getting tested for Lyme disease and with a broad panel, not just one antibody profile. I am not saying this is your case, yet I have had patients diagnosed with ALS that had Lyme instead. Keeping antioxidant levels up on a daily basis also is essential including fresh fruits and vegetables. Use of Primary Greens™, a highly bioavailable drink, is a good daily foundation. I also suggest Methylcobalamin (Vitamin B12) sublingual liquid and also Vitamin B12 administered by intramuscular injections. Additionally, the specific antioxidants of Green Tea Extract and Lipoic Acid (1,000-1,500 mg Lipoic Acid per day) are commonly used. In studies, Creatine also demonstrated some interesting effects in people with this disease and Vitamin E has been reported to reduce the incidence of ALS. Sincerely, Chris D. Meletis, ND
