Dear Doctor Im 66 years old and have had worsening angina for several years Ive begun intravenous chelation therapy with three grams of EDTA twice/week. Although I have now had 18 IV treatments I still havent noticed any improvement. Do you think oral chelation would help in addition to the IV treatments Im receiving?Anonymous
I wouldnt recommend adding oral EDTA at this time. Youre probably receiving optimum treatment on your current regimen although I personally administer the IV treatments on a weekly basis (instead of twice/week) and use only 1.5 gm EDTA per treatment (instead of 3 gm as explained in VRP NUTRITIONAL NEWS Vol. 11 Issue 8 August 1997). Also dont be discouraged that you havent noticed any improvement yet. I caution my patients not to expect any improvements until after at least 10-12 weeks of treatment (although many people do notice dramatic improvement sooner than that). There seems to be about a three-month delayed reaction from chelation when most patients seem to notice relief of their symptoms.I would not add oral chelation until after you reach the maintenance stage when you are receiving IV treatments at intervals of two weeks or more. For example I recommend that my patients on maintenance receive daily oral chelation plus one IV treatment every month or so.Ward Dean MD
