Dear Dr. Dean,I have written you several times concerning my husband. We started him on LipiControl™ almost three years ago and got him off of Pravachol®. He had really good results as I had written you then. However, in the past month he has experienced burning in his chest when he increased his activity. He was always able to do the treadmill for 40 minutes. Now, after 5 minutes, he is in pain, although it does go away after he stops and rests. It’s the same if he picks up his pace walking. We went to the heart doctor and he will be giving him a stress test this week. He thinks it could be angina. He gave us a drug called isosorbide mononitrate. I have my husband on Niacin, CoQ10, Folic Acid, and Turmeric. The heart doctor is concerned and feels that the Pravachol would help in keeping the arteries open. My husband will take the stress test which he always did well on in the past. It’s going on eight years of his quadruple bypass. Should we be concerned about this angina and consider him taking low dose of Pravachol with the LipiControl? I don’t want to put my husband in jeapordy with his health. Thanks for any help you can give.Mrs. D.
Dear Mrs. D.,It would help if I knew what other medications had been prescribed for your husband. The stents may have helped where they were placed, but neither stents nor bypass can help “clean out” the microcirculation where oxygen exchange takes place. This can be done by chelation therapy. When intensive treatment is required (as is evident by your husband’s having stents implanted) I recommend a combination of Oral ChelatoRx and IV chelation. In addition, I recommend VRP’s UniZyme™ and several grams of Turmeric Extract each day. Turmeric is capable of dramatically lowering blood fibrinogen, a highly significant marker of cardiovascular risk. Also, perhaps consider Resveratrol (20-40 grams per day) to help reduce platelet aggregation and prevent blood clots (a cause of heart attacks and strokes).
