Hello Doctor Dean I am writing because my father was diagnosed with dementia in January 2002. It came after being in a very stressful environment (mentally) for about 3 years. He was unable to differentiate between numbers for example 100 and 1000 and therefore could not pay his own bills. In about September of 2002 he could not put a complete sentence together without substituting the wrong words. His hallucinations also started in October or Novermber of 2002. Family members said they saw changes in him as early as 2001. When he was hospitalized in 2003 his blood pressure was extremely high. Also he didnt know the date but he could drive his car to pick up his friend and visit family. He was in the hospital for about 3 weeks. When he came home he was put on Risperdal aspirin a multi vitamin and high blood pressure medicine 10 mg. After about a week of being home he came back to his old self for about 2 weeks then he began having diarrhea in which it was coming down like water then his stomach began to hurt. We took him to a gastroenterologist and for about 4 weeks he was taken off all medication except for medication for his ulcer. After that he improved then regressed. It was an up and down cycle. He began hallucinating again and became hyperactive. He was always on the move. In September of 2003 he drove his car to New Jersey and was missing for 2 days. When he returned home he was hospitalized for a few days. In October 2003 I had him start on magnesium EDTA 1 or 2 days a week for 3 hours. After his third treatment he had dramatically improved but then he regressed again. He began having colds and his legs became a little stiff and the doctor put something in the EDTA and his legs became better but his cold persisted and his comprehension had regressed. He continued EDTA for 8 treatments and then it was terminated in December of 2003. In January he began taking 1gram of Niacin 3x day Vitamin E 400 IU 2x day Zinc 30mg 2x day Magnesium 200 mg 3xday B6 250 mg 1xday B complex 100 mg 1x day Flaxseed Oil I Tbsp calcium 1gram 3x day multi vitamin aspirin 81 mg Aricept 10 mg and Monopril 10 mg. He improved dramatically for a month then he regressed again to hallucinations getting up at night and putting on his clothing using the wrong words when speaking and not being able to comprehend therefore things have to be repeated for him to understand. His stomach began bothering him so I stopped the Niacin stopped the B6 stopped Aricept cut vitamin C to 2 grams day magnesium to 400 mg added 100 mg B complex and added 1 Tbsp of Flaxseed oil. He has taken 3 treatments of the calcium EDTA push (which only takes about 2 minutes) followed by an injection of glutathione. I stopped this about 2 weeks ago because I dont know too much about the new EDTA push or gluthatione. I am in the midst of making an appointment with a gastroenterologist for his stomach problems. My question is: are we doing the right thing or should we stop something or add something to his regimen? Thank you JC
Dear Ms. C First get your father started on CeaseFire. At least two wafers per day—more if he has pain during the day. You may be able to cancel his gastroenterology appointment. Second since the chelation helped Id get him started on the rapid IVs again. They are more effective in my experience than the longer treatments. Glutathione is a good idea.In addition Id get him started on Oral ChelatoRx as well. Combined oral/IV treatments seem to produce the best results.Lithium Orotate may help to calm him down a bit—and also help reverse the Alzheimers. Risperdal is pretty powerful stuff. I hope he can do without that. For his blood pressure I suggest VRPs Pressure-FX. Pressure-FX is one of the most effective antihypertensives Ive used with virtually no adverse effects. I also suggest melatonin and Postitrol at bedtime. That may help his aggitation at night (along with the Lithium).Id substitute niacinamide for niacin—and recommend about 3 grams daily. Instead of the zinc B complex vitamin E vitamin B6 multivitamin and calcium lets make it easy and take a high-potency multi like Optimum 6. That should cover nearly everything and might be easier on his stomach. For additional support for Alzheimers Id also consider Extension IQ (dont take late in the day for him) plus Phosphatidylserine and Acetyl-L-Carnitine. Alzheimer medications such as Hydergine and Deprenyl are also very effective although the price of Hydergine may be prohibitive.Let me know how he does. Ward Dean M.D.
