New research from the Department of Human Nutrition at Ohio State by Dr. Robert DiSilvestro suggests that Longvida® Optimized Curcumin (which is found in the formula DejaVida™) may support brain health. Curcumin is the active constituent of turmeric (Curcuma longa) with potent antioxidant properties. It also has the ability to support a healthy normal inflammatory response.
In a 30-day randomized, placebo-controlled, clinical trial, subjects were supplemented with one capsule of Longvida (containing 80 mg curcumin) or a placebo daily. The subjects were evaluated for several markers of inflammation and oxidative stress, including plasma levels of abnormal protein deposits, which are associated with suboptimal brain health and aging.
The study showed that this curcumin supplement resulted in a more balanced level of plasma abnormal protein deposits. Dr. Robert DiSilvestro states, “The effect was not tremendously large, but it was statistically significant and I think important because we gave such a small dose for a relatively short time.”
Dr. DiSilvestro also remarked, “One of the big issues when you are talking about any curcumin product is how much actually gets in and does something. In this case, when we gave Longvida at a low dose, we observed a variety of effects. So obviously, a good amount of active ingredient is getting into the bloodstream.”
