Boswellia Serrata Extract

Boswellia serrata, also known as Indian frankincense, is the scientific name for a tree of moderate height which grows in the dry hilly areas of India and is widely used as an herb in the Ayurvedheic tradition for its ability to promote a normal, healthy inflammatory response. Derived from tapping the Boswellia tree, it has been available as a high quality extract in India for approximately 25 years and marketed under the name Sallaki. The resin, or gum from the plant contains boswellic acids, which may account for much of this plant’s beneficial activity. Research done in India and Germany has recently confirmed Boswellia’s therapeutic efficacy for supporting a balanced inflammatory response.*

It is believed that an important mechanism of action for the boswellic acids in Boswellia Serrata Extract is the ability to inhibit the synthesis of certain enzymes associated with the immune system that modulate inflammation. Scientific evidence also suggests Boswellia Serrata Extract may support healthy cholesterol levels, as does the guggul of Commiphora Wightii (guggulipid), and enhance liver health.*
