VRP’s Private Nutritional Consultation Service is another way Vitamin Research Products helps customers in their pursuit of optimal health. Here is one example of the type of helpful information a nutritional consultation can provide.*
I often get calls from new customers who know little about nutritional supplements beyond the “once-a-day” vitamin their mother made them take when they were young. Typically, some event has prompted them to think seriously about their health—as was the case last month.
Forty-five-year-old Ms. G set up a consultation just after a recent doctor’s visit. Usually her checkup is uneventful and after her doctor gets the results of her annual labs, he sends a note that says “stay the course.” This year, her checkup did not go quite as well. Her blood pressure reading was abnormal, in the high range for the first time.
Ms. G sought my advice to try to correct the high blood pressure before the doctor insists she take a pharmaceutical drug. She knows nutritional supplements can be valuable, but wasn’t sure how to select the right nutrients for her. From a few brief questions about her health history, I determined Ms. G has a family history that places her at risk for both heart disease and diabetes.
Very often high blood pressure occurs when a person’s diet is deficient in minerals, most notably calcium, potassium, and magnesium. We discussed multivitamins and mulitiminerals that would be helpful, including a vitamin with some special ingredients beneficial to those who have diabetes or are at risk of developing it.
Because of the heart disease risk, I stressed the importance of the nutrients that reduce homocysteine: vitamin B6, B12, folate and betaine. These supplements provided Ms. G with a simple introduction to the wide world of nutrients, and I gave her a few other useful tips and ideas as well.
The consultation was so helpful to her that Ms. G set up an appointment with me for just after the first of the year, when we will evaluate the effectiveness of her basic program and fine-tune it as necessary. At that time, Ms. G has asked for my assistance with another issue: helping her husband improve his health!
