About VRP

Robert Watson President/CEO
The Revolution began quietly...
|
Twenty years ago, the first
shots were fired in the war against aging. Almost overnight, Americans began to
use terms like anti-aging and life extension. For the growing number of life
extension enthusiasts worldwide, there was no single source for high potency,
pharmaceutical-grade nutritional formulas. So in 1979, a small group of
dedicated scientists and research chemists decided to create their own company
to develop their own special formulas. Vitamin Research Products was born.
Our foundation is laid upon solid, scientific scrutiny. Talented research teams
first spend countless hours, poring through hundreds of journals and research
abstracts to identify nutrients vital for optimal health. This is followed by
the meticulous selection and careful teaming of the highest quality herbal
extracts and pharmaceutical-grade nutrient powders, the same superior grade used
today in cutting edge biomedical research.
This commitment to making the world's
finest nutritional formulas is further underscored by the choice to provide most
formulas in capsules, not tablets - a move that guarantees maximum nutrient
content, absorption and potency.
Vitamin Research Products publishes an industry-leading newsletter covering the latest
news in nutritional science. We also maintain the internet's largest health
and nutrition archive.

Meet Dr. Yu Shao, Ph.D.
|
As a brilliant researcher and talented scientist, Vitamin Research Products is proud to have Dr. Shao as Central Laboratory Director and Quality Control Manager. Dr. Shao performed his undergraduate and post-graduate studies at the Chinese Pharmaceutical University (CPU) in Nanjing, China. With a solid background in organic and analytical chemistry, Dr. Shao also studied traditional Chinese medicine and herbal medicine. After receiving his Master’s Degree, he served as instructor and research associate at CPU and as consultant for a number of large Chinese pharmaceutical companies where he was involved in the development of new drugs based on plant and animal extracts.
In 1990, Dr. Shao was presented with the prestigious Scientific Achievement Award by the Chinese Government Department of Health and Medicine in recognition of his breakthrough research in developing new anti-arthritic agents based on sea snake extracts. He has earned a worldwide reputation for his breakthrough research on lipids and cancer. Dr. Shao came to the United States in 1991 where he completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Nevada, Reno. At VRP, Dr. Shao is responsible for ensuring the utmost quality in all products and formulations.

VRP's Quality Control Department: Where Perfection Becomes Reality!
In the nutritional supplement
industry, VRP enjoys a reputation for quality. Manufacturing USP-grade, high
quality supplements starts with a commitment that every VRP staff member shares.
But producing the world's finest nutritional formulas requires more than just a
pledge. It calls for ongoing, daily responsibility. And it's in VRP's Central
Laboratory & Quality Control Department that this obligation ultimately
comes to rest.
The acquisition of state-of-the-art, high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC)
equipment, in conjunction with a unique, landmark alliance with the Biochemistry
Department, University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) has allowed Vitamin Research
Products to further its industry-leading commitment to excellence and
unsurpassed quality control.
"VRP has bolstered its reputation as an industry leader in quality control
with the purchase of this HPLC," says Yu Shao, Ph.D., Director of VRP's
Central Laboratory & Quality Control Department. "Our alliance with the
Department of Biochemistry at the University of Nevada, Reno, gives us a
fantastic resource that is of great value to our customers."
"Chromatography, one of the most useful methods of assuring quality, is
used to separate active ingredients from impurities, and to quantify active
ingredients present in the formula," says Dr. Shao. "VRP's HPLC is a
highly sophisticated piece of equipment that adds a whole new dimension to
QC," explains Shao. "It is far more accurate than other forms of
chromatography and it is much faster, too."
"VRP customers will certainly benefit from this array of QC-monitoring
equipment. We can subject every formula and every raw ingredient to the scrutiny
of gas chromatography, thin layer chromatography, liquid chromatography, of
course, and a wide variety of ultraviolet and visible spectrometer assays."
"The alliance with UNR is a mutually beneficial one," says VRP president, Robert Watson. "To be chosen by the
University of Nevada to share in the resources of their biochemistry department
is a wonderful honor," says Watson. "Our acquisition of this high
pressure liquid chromatography system will help VRP in our pursuit of quality
and excellence, and assure our customers that they are purchasing the purest and
highest quality supplements, as well as provide great assistance to the
university in their training of future scientists."
"Our Quality Assurance Team is constantly engaged in guaranteeing adherence
to our rigorous manufacturing standards based on Good Manufacturing
Practices," continues Watson. "The quality assurance check
points are built into the entire process, including issuance of raw materials,
blending and mixing for uniform dispersion, encapsulation for accurate fill
weight, and ensuring the proper capsule count in each bottle. All these check
points guarantee that what's indicated on the label, matches the content of the
bottle."
