Glutamine supports tissue health and immune response.
What is glutamine?
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body.
Glutamine provides valuable nutrition for the gastrointestinal lining, brain and muscle.
The need for glutamine increases during times of stress or physical trauma and supplementation can be powerfully restorative.
Glutamine helps transport nitrogen and carbon between tissues, two critical nutrients in human health. Certain immune cells, such as neutrophils and monocytes, depend on glutamine for proper function.
Athletes report improved muscle recovery from glutamine. Because of its special role in the brain, some practitioners recommend glutamine along with other amino acids to support children and learning.
Glutamine is also a precursor for many other compounds and building blocks used within the body, such as other amino acids, glutathione, glucose and more.
What are amino acids?
Amino acids are components of protein; each amino acid is unique, and they all have different purposes in human health. Some amino acids are ‘non-essential’ because they are made in the body, and others are ‘essential’ and must come from diet.
Because there are times when the need for glutamine is greater than what the body can produce, glutamine is considered a ‘conditionally essential’ amino acid*.
Vitamin Research Products provides Glutamine in 500 mg vegetarian capsules.
Individuals may supplement with glutamine capsules for daily support, and consider glutamine powder, also available from Vitamin Research Products, for more targeted applications.
